Welcome to the MCAG bicycling website! Bicycling is a great way to help air quality conditions, commute, exercise and have fun all at the same time. Merced County currently has 75 miles of bikeways - more than any other county in the San Joaquin Valley except Kern. In June 2003, the cities and county adopted the MCAG Regional Bicycle Plan, which proposes 400 additional miles of bikeways. The County has a mild climate, flat terrain, and good bicycle facilities that are improving all the time. Bicycle riding is on the rise. Although there is not an established way to measure non-motorized transportation, best estimates show that bicycle commuting has increased 22.6% in Merced County since the 1990 census. Due to rising gas prices, more employees are bicycling to work. The 2000 census shows that there are 605 bicycle commuters in Merced County. Students bicycle to classes. More individuals and families are asking for ideas on weekend rides. This website hopes to provide the information you need for safe, responsible, and enjoyable bike riding! The Merced Bicycle Coalition has upcoming and longstanding events. Learn more about these events and rides. |
