Bikes on buses make a great team.  Both are environmentally friendly, economical and fun ways to travel.  Combined, they can help you travel farther, faster.  Bicycling has great advantages, however, unexpected weather or other challenges may make the bus a very welcome way to complete the journey.

Merced County Transit - THE BUS, provides bike racks on all regularly scheduled buses operating on fixed routes and Dial-A-Ride.  The racks, which have a two bike capacity, are located on the front of the buses.

Bikes on THE BUS tips

  • Safety always comes first.  When you are loading or unloading your bike, never step to the street side of the bus.  Moving traffic can pose a risk.

  • Your bicycle can be no larger than 80 inches long or 48 inches high.  No motors, child carriers, or other bulky attachments can be accommodated due to weight and space limitations.

  • At the bus stop, have your bike ready to go as the bus approaches.  Remove water bottles, pumps. or other objects that might fall off during a trip.

  • Merced County Transit is not responsible for damages incurred to or caused by bicycles on transit system property, and is not liable for damage to bicycles that are loaded improperly.  Riders are responsible to properly load your bicycle and do so at your own risk.
